We live in a very active, engaging community. Events and activities abound, and there is always something going on, night and day, family-friendly and adult-only. Pocatello Chubbuck provides entertainment, education, and opportunity for all citizens year-round, but tomorrow, the 4th of July, is special, for many reasons.
Please participate in the events we have going on here. So many people have been working on the parade, the concerts, the fireworks and entertainment for a full year. So many people have given of their time and effort, as volunteers, to ensure we, the community, have a full 4th of July week, and a safe 4th of July celebration.
It’s easy to complain or not show up when you feel like it’s a hassle, or the traffic might be slow, or you wanted something in a different location. What’s not easy is putting your neck on the line, volunteering, organizing, planning, lining up activities, managing volunteers, ordering supplies, working with vendors, dealing with complaints, handling emergencies, and doing it all with smiles on faces.
As you wonder what to do this holiday, please consider attending one of the two concerts going on July 3rd. One is free in Old Town Pocatello put on by the Civitans-The Aaron Ball Band is playing during a special Revive at 5 at the Old Town Pavillion. The other is at the Portneuf Amphitheatre at the Wellness Complex. Bannock County is putting this one on, Joe Nichols with Trent Tomlinson. Both of these organizations have worked for months to get these shows put together, and they’ve been working closely with many other organizations to ensure the shows go off without a hitch. Please support them. Please-this is a moment when you can’t say “there’s never anything to do here!” You have a free or paid entertainment opportunity happening July 3rd, 2018. Something for everyone…
July 4th brings us a HUGE parade in Old Town Pocatello. The start time is 10:00 am. Go down early, shop the unique retailers in Old Town, grab some coffee/hot chocolate/Italian sodas or water from the many fantastic coffee houses downtown. Get a spot on Main St. and be wowed by all of the efforts that have gone into making the Independence Day Parade a huge success. Grab lunch at one of our locally owned restaurants-there is truly a menu for all likes in Old Town, whether it’s Greek, Thai, Italian, American, etc…We challenge you to try a restaurant you haven’t been to before-let us know what you think.
After the early day festivities die down, head over to the Complex-Bannock County has an amazing day planned for us, and who are we to not show up?! It’s like your best friend planning a huge surprise party for you and you decide you’d rather have a quiet dinner at home-can you imagine how let down and disappointed your friend would be? She’d probably never plan a party for you again…Don’t NOT show up to the Bannock County Independence Celebration because you:
- Can see the fireworks from your house-The atmosphere is way better with the crowd.
- Have family and friends over-Bring them to the show.
- Don’t want to deal with the traffic-Park and walk or carpool.
- Have dogs and want to celebrate with them-Dogs don’t enjoy fireworks. Please put them in the house with some soft music on for distraction. You go, with people, to the Independence Day Celebration.
- Don’t want to haul all of your chairs and blankets-don’t be lazy! This only comes around once a year!
- Planned a barbecue-Great! Enjoy that, then encourage all of your guests to go to the Complex for the 4th of July activities!
- Don’t have anyone to go with-Grab a neighbor or show up by yourself! You’ll run into people you know and will have a great time!
- Always shoot off your own fireworks-There’s a ban in place for most of Pocatello Chubbuck. Respect the ban, go to the sanctioned show!
What we’re trying to say is this community is REMARKABLE! You should choose to participate in it, with all of the efforts put in by several people to provide engaging entertainment and celebrations, you should show up. There are not many things worse than planning a party for months and then having no one attend. Let’s rally this year and show our events committees and volunteers that we do care; that we are grateful for their efforts; that we appreciate all of the time and work people have given to provide our community with amazing opportunities! Let’s SHOW UP. Let’s BE POSITIVE. Let’s BE ENCOURAGING. Let’s BE HELPFUL. Let’s BE ENTHUSIASTIC. Let’s BE A COMMUNITY WHO CARES!
Like many other entities, organizations, events in our community-We don’t do My Local Pocatello alone. We believe we’re all in this together.
